Congregational Care

Congregational care at FPC, Lowville, is carried out in several different ways. The most important care is that done informally by members with each other. Many of our members stay in touch with each other regularly and lend a hand in times of need “as a matter of course.” In a world that is growing increasingly impersonal, FPC is still a place where the person matters.

The Board of Deacons

More formally, much of the care of our members falls to the Board of Deacons, a group of six individuals elected by the congregation for this ministry of congregational care. The work of the Board of Deacons includes:

  • regular visitation of older members of the church and those in the hospital;
  • a “card ministry” that sends out cards to those celebrating accomplishments and others who are experiencing illness and other difficulties;
  • sponsoring regular fellowship meals on the fourth Sunday of each month (except in July and August) and other fellowship meals such as the Easter Morning Breakfast;
  • providing meals for members of the congregation in times of need, including the death of a loved one, illness, and at other difficult times; and

  • The current Board of Deacons includes

    Class of 2017: Kelly Adsit, Moderator, Barb Golas, Secretary
    Class of 2018: Kim Cavanagh, Joan Ropel
    Class of 2019:
    Mary Anne Kingsley
